'Lion' is the story of a journey a five year old boy makes by himself from his hometown in rural India, to the large city of Calcutta. The story recounts the journey it's poignant, honest, and very well-written. The book, which was originally published under the title of 'A Long Way Home: A Memoir', has been reissued as a tie-in for the newly released movie. Hence she never moved from the shack where she lived so that she will be there when Saroo comes back! Saroo's birth mother Kamala is another remarkable woman, who never gave up hope that her son Sheru (which is his correct name!) would return one day. Sue herself was a WWII refugee from Hungary and her story is also inspiring as told it in the book. Not only Saroo, but his Aussie parents, Sue and John are wonderful, loving and caring parents and individuals. It takes years, but the recognition of a water tower in a small town begins the journey home, a journey that ends in finding his birth family. Saroo was eventually befriended by a teenager, taken to the police station, confined to a juvenile facility (along with children like himself, young criminals, and children needing medical care), and then adopted by a couple in Tasmania, the island off the southern coast of Australia.
